Since we published a review to the latest Winterhorde album some days ago, we thought you would like to learn more about the band itself. So we present you now this wonderful interview, have fun!
“And everybody goes yeaaaah!”
nilgoun: Hello, first of all, I would like to thank you for taking the time to answer our questions! Can you tell us about the persons being Winterhorde?
Morgenrrot:
Hello ! Thanks for hosting us in your magazine.
Well what is there to tell , there are six of us , originally all from the North of Israel , the recent (two years old) line up includes :
Horeph on vocals
Lex and Barakk on guitars
Celestial on the bass
Hesperus on drums
and myself – Morgenrrot on keyboards / back vocals.
The most recent addition to the horde is Shaul on acoustic guitar who currently helps us at live performances and adds lots of atmosphere to our show.
We’re most pleased with this line-up and see no changes in the future although there are more then 20 musicians who belong to the past of the band.
nilgoun: You’re new album “Underwatermoon” was published a while ago, how was the resonance and were you satisfied with it?
Morgenrrot:
Our debute album “Nebula” was released in 2006 and the feedbacks were most satisfying as from the media as from the fans all over.
Though we never pleased to the end and keep on pushing to create a better ‘ more interesting and kicking music.
nilgoun: As we know your bassist Celestial wrote the story behind “Underwatermoon”, can you say, what was his inspiration? Was he influenced by movies, history or even literature?
Morgenrrot:
I can definitely say that Celestial was influenced only by Celestial himself. He is the most creative men I know today and I doubt that he needs more inspiration then that which surrounds us now.
nilgoun: Four years ago you released your debut “Nebula”, where do you see the main differences between your two albums and in what way do you see any progression?
Morgenrrot:
I think it is pretty obvious. If you listen to both albums you can see right away the progress WINTERHORDE is making from one album to another. If you don’t see it – Listen again.
nilgoun: Concerning the two albums, do you have any favourites for yourself?
Morgenrrot:
The two albums are pretty different so there in no conflict – I love playing songs from both of them.
nilgoun: Where do you see your main influences? Do you write your songs together or does someone takes the main part in composing them?
Morgenrrot:
Our influence lays in our past as creative musicians over the years.
Everyone came from different direction and when we combine it all together we create WINTERHORDE.
The writing process is different from one song to another – happens that one member brings most of the song done and we finish it together, or we start from scratch and write the whole thing in one rehearsal as everyone in the room feeds the other with his ideas.
That’s where the magic for me.
nilgoun: What are the main characteristics that describe your music and Winterhode in general and what are the main differences between you and other bands?
Morgenrrot:
The main thing about WH is we do not restrict ourselves by putting a label on our music.
We want is to be heavy and aggressive filled with atmosphere and musical progression in every song.
There is no such thing as a “bridge song” –a song that connects one hit to the other – everyone of our creation is the heart of the whole album.
nilgoun: The movie “A Headbangers Journey” pointed out, that the situations for metal scenes in eastern countries are quite difficult, could you tell us about the development of the israeli one?
Morgenrrot: Perhaps the situation in other eastern countries is difficult – but in my opinion Israel is very much alive and kicking. We have a strong metal scene with lots of great bands.
nilgoun: What are you concentrating on at the moment? Do you already have any plans for future albums?
Morgenrrot: Right now our main goal is to bring “Underwatermoon” to maximum listeners as possible and here is once again a big thanks to you zine for the contribution.
We are doing lots of gigs in Israel and working on an European tour.
Furthermore we already started working on our next album but … lets say the information in confidential at this point – I hope you understand. Hah.
nilgoun: Do you have any plans for concerts in germany/europe in general? Do you already confirmed shows?
Morgenrrot: We’re working hard on booking an European tour and we hope to see Germany next year , but that’s all I can say right now.
nilgoun: Thanks for answering our questions. It is up to you to end the interview!
Morgenrrot : Thanks a lot guys!
Horns up to Threnodies and it’s readers!
Keep the Winter Fuckin’ Metal in you at all times!
