Musicians often claim, that their inspiration lies within those paintings and lyrics. In some special cases something gets dedicated to one of those artists. Caspar David Friedrich is one of those lucky people, because of the Der Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer compilation, that’s dedicated to his painting, philosophy and life. All songs were exclusively written for this compilation but we will see if they can reach the quality of the painting..
The compilation features 25 artists and songs on two CDs and contains mostly black/pagan/folk metal/music. Originally the compilation should have been released by Northern Silence Productions but somehow Prophecy Productions and Pest Productions took over, to release this great piece of music.
The atmosphere created by the artists is incredibly thick. The mix of pure instrumental and vocal tracks, respectively the mix of metal and folk songs, is superior. According to your taste in music some of the tracks might be skippable, but the audacious songs like The Painting Moves by Thayer Cabin are enhancing the value of the compilation. Surely the cast itself is magnificent and one reason to buy could be, that you can get an overview on the variety of the given genres.
Besides the great cast, other positive aspects are the 2:38:41 length of the material that shouldn’t disappoint anyone and the superior production.
Conclusion:
Fans of atmospherical music will really enjoy listening to this compilation with its incredibly thick atmosphere, the high production standard and the really qualitative music. At least you should visit the compilation on Myspace!
